I built a pair of mono blocks using the same driver stage 18 years ago. It's a nice sounding amplifier, but the 6SN7 is nowhere near the ideal driver for a 300B. 300B mods (back to top) Mail from an experienced 300B builder (and my comments in red) #1) The most important (sonically) capacitor is the 300B Cathode capacitor and the Powersupply capacitor for the 300B Stage, because they are such large values and electrolytics, even Black gates are quite bad. Since the 300B has very good linearity, coupled with the simple class A single-ended circuit the harmonic distortion generated at the rated output is relatively small. Usually the total harmonic distortion at maximum output is less than 5% and are mainly second order harmonics.
